Şevval Başalan invites you to the FEAST!

Curator: Öykü Eras

"If a woman has lived both heaven and hell in this world, she has won all her victories. If a woman instills fear not from her fall but from the grandeur of her rise, she has intricately woven every scarred part of her soul!

… and if you're going to trip a woman, make sure you're going to take her down completely! Because if she gets up before you, she will love you from the place you deserve..."

-Şevval Başalan

“FEAST,” which opened its doors to art lovers at Piramid Sanat on Wednesday, May 8th, reinterprets the mythological stories of Adam, Eve, and Lilith from a modern perspective.

While Eve is often portrayed as a symbol of obedience and acceptance in creation myths, Lilith stands out as an ancient figure of independence and rebellion. In the "FEAST" exhibition, Şevval Başalan focuses on the dialogue between these two figures, offering viewers a deep exploration of female identity and societal codes. The artworks emphasize the stark contrast between Eve’s submissive figure and Lilith’s rebellious nature, symbolically addressing the conflicts and resistance women face.

Şevval Başalan, particularly drawing attention to femicides and male violence, invites visitors not only to observe the artworks but also to question personal and societal gender roles. This bold exhibition offers the audience an opportunity to confront ongoing sexism through mythological and historical narratives.

Throughout the exhibition, conversations and panel discussions with Şevval Başalan, guest critics, and art historians will also be held.

"FEAST" can be visited at Piramid Sanat until September 7th.

We invite everyone interested in exploring art, women's stories, and deep dialogues to the "FEAST."
